Green paved the way for R.E.M. to reach a wider scope. First song "Pop Song 89" is in the same vein with The Doors' "Hello, I Love You" and The Kinks' "All Day and All of the Night". Singles "Stand" and "Orange Crush" went to no. 1 position of Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Another fine moment comes during "World Leader Pretend", which Michael Stipe repeatedly sang "I raised the wall, and I will be the one to knock it down." He later described it as a battle within. C
